To start with almost every DJ when asked will tell you that he plays every type of music. However every DJ will have one or two keys areas that they excel in and they normally have one or two areas they will play, but grit there teeth while playing them.

Drill the DJ down to find out exactly what they are comfortable with and what they don’t like playing to make sure this matches with your tastes.

Next check out the style of the DJ. Is the DJ happy to work from a play list that you provide, taking direction from you every step of the way or has the DJ been DJing for so long that he thinks he knows better.

Finally and most importantly check out the integrity of the DJ. Are contracts, invoices issued, can you verify references, is he covered with PLI and PAT. The last thing you want is to be cancelled on with days to go before the party.
